The Marine Ices
A 1920s Italian gelateria that's been scooping perfect ice cream for nearly a century. Family recipes, vintage charm, and flavors that transport you straight to the Amalfi Coast without leaving North London.
About The Marine Ices
## Nearly a Century of Gelato
Marine Ices has been a Chalk Farm institution since 1928, when Italian immigrant Gaetano Mansi decided North London needed proper gelato. Four generations later, the family is still here, still making ice cream the traditional way, and still serving it with the kind of pride that only comes from doing one thing perfectly.
## The Real Deal
This is gelato as it should be - dense, intensely flavored, and made fresh daily using recipes that have barely changed since the Roaring Twenties. The pistachio is legendary, the chocolate will ruin you for all other chocolate ice cream, and the seasonal fruit flavors taste like they've captured summer in a scoop.
## More Than Ice Cream
While gelato is the star, don't overlook their pizza and pasta offerings. The Italian comfort food is authentic and reasonably priced, making this a proper neighborhood restaurant that happens to serve incredible dessert. The coffee program uses proper Italian beans and techniques that would satisfy any Roman barista.
## A Piece of History
The vintage interior hasn't changed much in decades, and that's exactly how it should be. This is living history - a family business that survived wars, recessions, and countless food trends by simply being excellent at what they do. Come for the gelato, stay for the connection to old London.
