Where to eat on Chalk Farm Road, from the Roundhouse to the market
A pub with a fire pit, roast duck upstairs at Hawley Wharf, and three good walks from the Roundhouse when the road is rammed.
By Only Camden EditorialShort version: the Lock Tavern for a sit-down pint and dinner at £25 and under, Three Uncles in the Hawley Wharf food hall for roast duck, and a short walk to Kentish Town Road or Parkway when you want a table away from the crowds. Camden Market is open 10:00 to 19:00 daily, and the Hawley Wharf food halls run 11:30 to 23:00, according to Camden Market.
The Lock Tavern, 35 Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8AJ
This is the easy answer at the market end of the road. It is a McMullen pub, and its own page lists dinner, a weekly pub quiz, a heated beer garden with a fire pit and a roof terrace. OpenTable puts it at £25 and under, British and casual, with a main dining room, a heated smokers’ garden and the rooftop. The booking line there is 020 7482 7163.
It is the pick if your group cannot agree. Book if you want the dining room, and treat the garden as a bonus on a cold night, since the fire pit is heated.
Three Uncles, Hawley Wharf food hall, NW1 8AA
Go to Unit 199 on the second floor of the Hawley Wharf food hall, Chalk Farm Road. This is Cantonese roast meat, in the style of 1970s Hong Kong roast cafés. Hot Dinners says the three founding friends started with a City stall and chop everything to order. Order the roast duck, the crispy pork belly or the char siu.
The restaurant’s own site says Time Out named it one of Camden’s best restaurants in 2025, and quotes Time Out choosing it as the favourite among the food hall’s roughly 30 eateries for Hong Kong-style roast meat. Check prices on the day, as none are listed here.
Which part of the market to eat in
A third-party guide, Things to Do in London, suggests the Stables is good for wandering but can feel cramped at peak times. Hawley Wharf is newer and better for a proper seat and a longer lunch, and North Yard has more sit-down restaurants and bars. That matches a simple rule: grazing, go to the Stables; sitting down, go to Hawley Wharf.
Before the gig: walk in, do not queue
If the Roundhouse is on Chalk Farm Road and the market is heaving, these are a short walk off it, per London Theatreland:
- Guanabana, 85 Kentish Town Road. Caribbean, about six minutes from the Roundhouse. The Infatuation says it serves one of the best Sunday roasts in the city, so Sunday is the day to go.
- Bintang, 93 Kentish Town Road. Filipino, about six minutes away. Olive Magazine says it has been open since 1987 and calls itself London’s oldest Filipino restaurant. It has a back terrace and a karaoke room, which is a fair warning about how the night might end.
- Lemonia, Regent’s Park Road. Greek, and recommended by The Infatuation as respite from the Camden crowds. It is the one to book if you want a calm table.
Give yourself a few extra minutes for the walk back and aim to be in your seat before the support act. Check the Roundhouse’s own what’s-on page for door times on the night.
A pudding stop
Chin Chin Labs, 49 to 50 Camden Lock Place, NW1 8AF, is just off the road rather than on it. The Infatuation describes super-smooth liquid-nitrogen ice cream with limited seating, and burnt butter caramel is the flavour it picks. Take it away and eat it by the water.
Getting there
Camden Market and Hawley Wharf can be reached from Camden Town and Chalk Farm Underground stations and Camden Road Overground. Hawley Wharf is on Chalk Farm Road at NW1 8AA, the Stables is at NW1 8AH and Camden Lock Place is NW1 8AF.
The plan
- Sitting pretty: Lock Tavern, book the dining room.
- Best bite in the food hall: Three Uncles, roast duck.
- Calm before the gig: Lemonia or Guanabana.
- Late and loud: Bintang.
