Belsize Park sits in the London Borough of Camden, and the eating happens along three streets: Belsize Lane (the heart of Belsize Village), Haverstock Hill and England's Lane. Here are four places worth planning a night around, with what to order. Check each place's hours and book before you go, especially if you are heading up for an evening.

Terra Moderna, England's Lane, NW3

Find it at 2b England's Lane. It is modern Italian cooking with Australian influences, and the wine list leans towards Australia and New Zealand, according to Harden's. Hot Dinners covered the opening in April 2023, with Mirko Pisano named as head chef at the time.

Order: the tagliatelle with Barolo-infused slow-cooked ox cheek ragù, the melanzane alla parmigiana and the tiramisù. The venue's own listing also mentions wakame pappardelle with prawns and sea bream ceviche. The Hot Dinners launch menu had octopus carpaccio, parsley gnocchi with Gorgonzola and a Sardinian seafood stew with fregola.

Harden's lists it as open daily for lunch and dinner, with Sunday running 11:30 to 16:00 and 17:00 to 22:00. Bookings go through OpenTable and DesignMyNight. Expect a mid to upper price, and look at the menu before you commit.

Tish, Haverstock Hill, NW3

Find it at 196 Haverstock Hill. This is a kosher meat brasserie, which means it is closed on Shabbat and does not serve dairy alongside meat, so ring ahead on 020 7431 3828 for Friday and Saturday hours. Harden's describes it as classy, with contemporary dishes, Jewish classics and some Hungarian-Jewish family recipes, and ranks it first on its Belsize Park list.

DesignMyNight names the chef as John Ellison, formerly head chef at Bob Bob Ricard, and calls Tish an all-day grand café. It is on the list of kosher restaurants kept by the KLBD. If you want the Jewish classics and the family recipes, that is the reason to come.

Cinder, Belsize Lane, NW3

Find it at 66 Belsize Lane. It is a wood-fire and Josper grill, and OpenTable describes an open kitchen filling a small dining room with the smell of burning wood, plus a heated terrace. Harden's calls it a buzzy flame-grilled specialist, founded by a chef from LPM and the Ritz, with a second branch in St John's Wood.

Order: the salmon, which is the most praised dish on one review aggregator. Be warned that some Tripadvisor reviewers found it overpriced, so the verdict is mixed. Check prices before you book through OpenTable.

Jamon Jamon, Haverstock Hill, NW3

Find it at 177 Haverstock Hill, phone 020 7483 4242. It is Spanish tapas at ££, in a plant-filled, cosy dining room, according to That's Up. It is a small chain, so do not expect a one-off.

Order: patatas bravas, tortilla, garlic-and-chilli prawns, the seafood paella and a board of 24-month-cured jamón ibérico. Sangria is the drink to match.

Getting there

Belsize Park station is in Zone 2 at the northern end of Haverstock Hill. Tish and Jamon Jamon are on Haverstock Hill, Cinder is on Belsize Lane and Terra Moderna is on England's Lane. Primrose Hill park is about a five-minute walk from England's Lane, which makes a decent walk-it-off after a big dinner.

Which one

  • Big plates of pasta and a wine list with an accent: Terra Moderna.
  • Kosher, and a proper brasserie: Tish.
  • Fire, smoke and a terrace: Cinder.
  • Shared plates without fuss: Jamon Jamon.
