Short version: for a proper sit-down meal, go to Mildreds on Jamestown Road. For a market lunch, head into the Stables on Chalk Farm Road. For pizza, Purezza on Parkway. All of it is vegan, and none of it needs a plan.

Mildreds, Jamestown Road

Mildreds Camden is at 9 Jamestown Road, NW1 7BW, about a four-minute walk from Camden Town tube according to the restaurant. It is open Monday to Saturday 09:00 to 23:00 and Sunday 09:00 to 22:00, so breakfast, lunch and dinner are all covered. The whole group went fully plant-based in 2021, according to Camden Market’s journal.

It is the one to pick if you are with a group or a dog: the restaurant lists large-group dining, outdoor seating, step-free access and dog-friendly seating. OpenTable puts it in the £25 and under bracket.

What to order: the dessert menu is where the restaurant makes its boldest claim, with what it calls “our famous vegan tiramisu”. On the main menu its site shows a shiitake whipped silken tofu curry and a pumpkin hummus. An older review from The Infatuation singled out the Sri Lankan kiri hodi, the kimchi and the gochujang gyoza, and advised booking ahead for weekend brunch. That advice still sounds sensible for any Saturday or Sunday morning.

There is also a Camden Supper Club, with a globally inspired menu that changes every two weeks. Check the Mildreds site for the current dates.

Mildreds Camden has the hours and booking.

M’eat The Vegan’s, the Stables

Unit 731, Camden Market Stables, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8AH. Camden Market and the restaurant’s own site both list it as open every day, 11:00 to 22:00. That makes it a safe late lunch or an early dinner before a Roundhouse gig, which is a short walk away.

The menu is 100% vegan and wanders happily across cuisines: Indian, Asian, Caribbean and Mexican. Camden Market names satay, gyoza, green curry, jerk chick’n with plantain, burritos, tacos and diner-style burgers. The restaurant says its Camden kitchen serves all five of its plant-based counters from one place, so a group that cannot agree can order from several in one go. That is the real selling point here.

Details are on the Camden Market listing.

Vegan Thai, Asian Alley

Camden Market describes Vegan Thai as 100% vegan and one of its classics. It is at 6B Asian Alley in the Stables, and the market’s page mentions gyoza and pad thai. If you want something quick and savoury while you wander the Stables, this is a sensible stop. Hours vary at market stalls, so check the market listing before you go.

Purezza, Parkway

Purezza is at 45 to 47 Parkway, Camden Town, NW1 7PN, close to Camden Market and Regent’s Canal according to its own site. It is known for vegan pizza, and Time Out includes it in its list of the best vegan restaurants in London, with a 3 out of 5 rating and a Recommended tag. That is a fair summary: a reliable pizza stop rather than a revelation.

The restaurant says it is the UK’s largest vegan restaurant, and its site mentions a Cheese Cellar cheese and wine tasting and a Big Vegan Quiz night. Check the Purezza site for booking, as it is a decent option for a group heading to a gig on the Parkway side of Camden Town.

A plan for the day

  • Brunch: Mildreds on Jamestown Road, booked ahead at weekends.
  • Lunch: the Stables on Chalk Farm Road, either M’eat The Vegan’s or Vegan Thai.
  • Dinner: pizza at Purezza on Parkway.

Camden Market’s food directory has a vegan filter if you want to browse the other stalls, including Magic Falafel and Clean Kitchen on Buck Street.

What about Kentish Town?

Kentish Town is better known for pubs and gig venues than for dedicated vegan restaurants, and the sit-down options are thin. If you want a guaranteed vegan meal, plan it around Camden Town and the Stables, then walk north afterwards for a drink.
