Open 10:00 to 20:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, free to wander in, no booking. Cyberdog is at Stables Market, Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8AH. Camden Market lists it as 45 Gin House Stables Yard. Follow the noise.

That is not a joke. Camden Market says you will hear Cyberdog before you see it, and two giant robot statues flank the doorway. Inside, it is a three-floor shop of neon and UV clothing, which Camden Market bills as futuristic clubwear.

What you are walking into

VisitLondon describes dance music, live DJs and podium dancers, and says there is some less colourful streetwear too, for anyone who wants the shop without the glow. Tripadvisor reviewers mention a DJ downstairs playing loud music all day, plus UV clothing, make-up, accessories and glow toys.

Wikipedia lists four ranges: Kawaii, Neon Clubwear, 2090s (the futuristic one) and Cybertronic. Reviewers also mention LED and digital backpacks, UV 3D T-shirts and space ice cream. Those are things visitors have spotted, not a stock list, so treat them as a treasure hunt rather than a promise.

The basement is adults only content

Futurelovers, the adult store, is in the basement. It sells sex toys and fetish clothing, according to the Camden New Journal and Wikipedia. Wikipedia says the sister brand launched in November 2012. If you are visiting with children or a nervous aunt, know what is downstairs before you take the stairs.

A bit of history

Cyberdog started with a stall in Camden Market in 1994, according to Wikipedia, the Camden New Journal and Time Out. The founders are designer Terry Davy and business manager Spiros Vlahos. The Camden New Journal says the idea came from a night out when Davy saw police in reflective gear and thought it would look great in a club, and that the pair were tired of clubwear with smiley faces on.

Wikipedia says the name comes from the couple’s pet chihuahua, Chichi the Cyberdog. Time Out says the earlier Camden shop sat in the old tunnels beneath the market, nicknamed the Camden Catacombs, originally built as stables for horses and now unreachable. Davy told Time Out she still designs everything herself, that it is made in London, and that staying in Camden matters.

The Camden New Journal’s 20th anniversary piece says customers have included Kylie Minogue, Alice Cooper and Daryl Hannah. It is an old piece, so take it as colour, not a guest list.

When to go

  • Monday to Thursday: 11:00 to 19:30.
  • Friday: 11:00 to 20:00 on the official site, though Camden Market lists Friday to Sunday as 10:00 to 20:00, so aim for around 20:00 closing.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 to 20:00.

Bank holiday hours can change, so check the shop’s contact page or ring +44 (0)20 7482 2842 before a special trip. Camden market weekends are the busy ones, so if you want room to look at the racks, a weekday afternoon is the sensible bet. If you want the full noise and the DJ, go on a weekend.

What it costs

Browsing costs nothing. Prices are not listed in what we can see, so check cyberdog.net before you set a budget. Tripadvisor reviewers call the prices good for the location and the fame, and Yelp puts it in the £££ band.

For after

Camden Market says Cyberdog has a Rave Bar on Buck Street, with a rooftop. Check the Camden Market page for the latest before you plan around it.
